Richard B. Cheney, distinguished businessman and public servant is vice-president. Cheney is a well-known figure in Washington's political landscape. George W. Bush will be the next president the U.S. will be Cheney's fourth. Bush decided to choose Cheney as his running mate for the vice-presidential race in July 2000 due to his experience as well as his knowledge. Dick Cheney is a former chief of staff to the President. He also served as a member of Congress and he was Secretary of Defense. Both Republicans and Democrats admire him for his honesty. Cheney has said that his position within the administration as one of a straightforward but discreet advisor to Bush. Cheney was the first to accept the Republican vice-presidential Nomination in 2007, stated that he was looking forward to working alongside a president who can reach across political lines to engage with opposition with good faith and a common goal. Richard Bruce Cheney was born in Lincoln Nebraska on January 30 1941. He was the son of Richard Herbert Cheney and the former Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. When he was 13 years old, he emigrated and his entire family moved from Nebraska to Casper located in western part of Wyoming which is where his father was director of the local district of soil conservation to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
